According to this article in Emerce (dutch) the Rabobank and FEBO will start testing a new payment system using NFC, for Near Field Communication, enabled mobile phones. The system will be based on the MiniTix internet payment systems and allow customers to buy snack food from their digital wallets peoloaded with a 100 euros, paid for through their mobile phone account.

I did not know anybody was close to actually doing this in the netherlands so i’m pleasantly surprised. Although i assume it will only work with a specific phone, probably handed out for this experiment alone, it’s stil a step forward in a world where digital payments have been lagging behind for quite a while now.
